I am!
1) Increased time spent at weather.com
2) Increased willingness to wear my crocs in public
3) Increased time thinking about cats/perennials
4) Morning trips to Lowe’s with friends / referring to Lowe’s as “aspirational”

Anyone who plotted out an awesome “business” with a middle school friend will recognize the general quality of the ideas tea partiers have for changing things. For example, maybe you and that friend thought peanut butter in a can would be an excellent product. You devised very specific concepts like a flat applicator tip (like a knife!) and you invented an awesome name, like Peanut Better!, and you had specific colors for the cans and the logos and a great ad campaign and you even had ideas for point-of-sale promos (though you didn’t call them “point-of-sale”). But you didn’t even talk about how to get the peanut butter in the can. Or where it would be made. Or what grade peanuts to use or the engineering for the can pressure or your distribution model or whether or not your company would use contractors. Or how you might leverage local tax incentives when figuring where to place the factory. You didn’t even think about running a patent check to see if your idea was already taken.” —

I finally got around to reading this whole piece—highly recommended.
Gay men in Iraq are being targeted and killed by militia groups. A report by ‘Human Rights Watch’ says that it in some instances Iraqi security forces “colluded and joined in the killing” of homosexuals.
Despite homosexuality being legal in the country the report says members of the Mehdi militia are leading a brutal co-ordinated campaign. “We’ve heard stories confirmed by doctors of men having their anuses glued and then being force-fed laxatives which leads to a very painful death,” one researcher of the report told the BBC.
Katie sent me info for this race, which seems like a good opportunity to participate in a charity run that will have more local, direct results than usual. It could also be a good opportunity to hang out with some of those sporty Tumblrs who I’ve never met IRL. We drink afterwards, of course.
Greg Hamilton was diagnosed with testicular cancer in June of 2009. The cancer has spread, so he is currently undergoing four months of chemotherapy, and if that is not successful he intends to undergo major surgery to remove the cancer from every part of his body. Before the diagnosis he was training to run his first Ultramarathon, a 50 miler. Now, between the disease and the chemo, he struggles to climb the stairs to his apartment. His dream of joining the FDNY has been put on hold while he focuses all of his energy on getting better.
Greg is 22 years old, and has worked at JackRabbit since he arrived in NYC almost two years ago. As an assistant manager first in the Union Sq store and now in the Brooklyn store, Greg has helped thousands of people start running, get faster, and reach their goals. This is our opportunity to give back for all the support he’s given us over the years.
There are all kinds of costs when fighting cancer, and only a few of them are covered by medical insurance. Greg’s parents live in Washington State, so travel and lodging are big expenses. Greg’s cell phone bill has doubled. Transportation to and from treatment, plus dozens of co-pays, adds expenses. Greg needs extra medical supplies while he is recovering from chemo, and all of his food needs to be delivered. While he is working at the Brooklyn JackRabbit occasionally, his income is nowhere near what it was and will not be at least until chemo is complete in October. If he has to undergo surgery, that’s another 3-6 months of recovery from the surgery where Greg’s expenses will be high but his income will be low.
Where: Prospect Park, the race starts at the Bartel Prichard lot near the movie theatre.
